Imperial Meeting 2017

Several of our members attended the Imperial Meeting at Bisley in July.

We entered 5 teams in concurrent competitions and the results were as follows:

Bank of England – 29th (32 teams entered)

Steward – 27th (33 teams entered)

Belgian – ‘A’ team 33rd and ‘B’ team 37th (38 teams entered)

Rifle Clubs – 41st (41 teams entered)

Individually, our tyro shooters showed our experienced members how to shoot in the Queen’s 1st Stage with Tony Hopkins scoring 101.11 and Martin Sheppard 100.8. Unfortunately, no one made it to the 2nd stage. However, Tony wins the Spiriti Cup for the highest score in the club in the Queen’s (not having won it in the last 3 years). The cup will be presented at the club championships later in the year.

Four members shot the whole Grand and were placed as follows:

Paul Johnson 677.69 (250th)

Ian Dampney 665.55 (417th)

Andy Chown 655.42 (506th)

Martin Sheppard 585.39 (677th) – no score in the Corporation.

Martin Sheppard wins the Gordon Bennett Trophy for the highest in the club in the Grand (not having won it in the last 3 years). The cup will be presented at the club championships later in the year.

Three of our members represented their counties. Ian Dampney shot for Somerset, Paul Johnson shot for Hereford & Worcester, and Geoff Baylis shot and coached for Essex.

Ian Dampney also shot in the second stage of The Georges.

Paul Johnson appeared on 4 aggregate lists and also shot in the Donaldson Memorial final (88th).

Andy Chown also had a 50.3 in the Corporation, our only possible in this Imperial meeting!

Glyn Marples narrowly missed breaking his tyro by finishing 97th on the Donegall prize list with a 49.5. Well done Glyn!

I think everyone enjoyed the week and is look forward to next year’s 149th Imperial Meeting!

Apologies to anyone I may have missed.

Paul Johnson, Match Secretary, Lloyds TSB Rifle Club
