Imperial Meeting 2018

Imperial Meeting 2018

Just five of our members entered the Imperial Meeting at Bisley in July.

We entered 2 teams in concurrent competitions and the results were as follows:

Belgian – 33rd (36 teams entered)

Rifle Clubs – 31st (36 teams entered)

Four of our members shot in the Queen’s 1st Stage. Paul Johnson was the only one to make it to the second stage with a score of 101.13 despite having a broken firing pin at 300 yards! In the second stage Paul scored 145.13 which in difficult conditions was enough to qualify for his 5th Queen’s final. Wind conditions in the final were very testing with the winner scoring a total of 281.29. Paul finished 12 points behind in 65th place retaining his class ‘A’ status. Paul wins the Spiriti Cup for the highest score in the club in the Queen’s (not having won it in the last 3 years). The cup will be presented at the Club Championships later in the year.

Three members shot the whole Grand and were placed as follows:

Ian Dampney 682.41 (505th)

Paul Johnson 647.49 (619th) – did not shoot the Lovell due to firing pin problems in the Queen’s

Tony Hopkins 617.17 (653rd)

Tony Hopkins wins the Gordon Bennett Trophy for the highest score in the club in the Grand (not having won it in the last 3 years). The cup will be presented at the Club Championships later in the year.

Two of our members represented their counties. Ian Dampney shot for Somerset and Paul Johnson shot and coached for Hereford & Worcester.

One final item to report is that Glyn Marples has finally broken his Tyro in the Donegal scoring 50.3 (finishing above the ‘last O in’ on the prize list. Well done Glyn!

We all look forward to next year’s 150th Imperial Meeting.

Good shooting!

Paul Johnson, Match Secretary, Lloyds TSB Rifle Club
